To live consciously means (at least to me) that I must become more aware of how my daily actions impact on the environment and on others. This awareness of how my actions affect the world will inevitably lead me to make positive changes to lessen my impact. How is this different from making a resolution? Simple psychology! When one makes a resolution it is almost always a statement such as “I will lose weight”, “I will quit smoking” or, “I will stress less.” As great as these resolutions are, they are statements made without a plan and without the recognition of what has brought you to the point where you state, “I will lose weight.”
Living consciously will result in awareness. When an understanding of the ways our actions toward the environment ripple out and affect others (including the world’s poor, who are often among the most highly impinged upon section of the population), positive change will be the result. Very few people will refuse to act when faced with the true impact they have on our planet.
So go ahead, live consciously. Doing so is sure to have a positive impact on you and those around you!
